burnt infant is my micrø-tønal ambient prøject – an experiment in abstractiøn and minimalism. the purpøse is tø expand music beyønd the realm øf standard cøncepts øf melødy, harmøny, and rhythm, yet tø remain musical.
burnt infant develøped øut øf my frustratiøn with my regular wørk, which can admittedly be extremely tediøus, øverly cømplex, and nigh impøssible tø finish. burnt infant alløws me tø expløre the purest aspect øf music: søund, separated frøm the gøverning rules øf music. tø this end, i build and/ør mødify instruments tø accømmødate variøus exøtic scale degrees, alløwing før nøtes-between-nøtes tø be played. this remøves even the limitatiøns øf the western 12-tøne scale – the pøssibilities før this are endless.
møst øf burnt infant’s wørk is nøt premeditated – it is largely imprøvised and rarely edited. mistakes are embraced. the søunds that are generated usually begin with a mødified guitar, and are heavily prøcessed either by a large cøllectiøn øf analøg and digital pedals, ør (increasingly) with søftware.
in essence, burnt infant is the søund øf a whale sticking it’s dick in a tøaster at a depth øf 1ø,394 feet.
